This MEI course is a one-day training course that will help you add the multi-engine qualification to your existing FAA flight instructor certificate. You must have 10 hours of PIC. You must have 10 hours of PIC in a multi-engine aircraft by the time you start this course. If not, add an additional day for every 5 hours left.
The multi-engine instructor qualification allows you to enjoy the advantages of teaching students to fly multi-engine aircraft while recording the time they spend with multiple engines. An instructor who adds this qualification has more opportunities to teach students on different planes and, at the same time, accumulate valuable experience. Adding a multi-engine qualification to your flight instructor certificate will allow you to teach on a wider variety of aircraft and provide training to pilots who want to start a career in aviation. Because earning a multi-motor instructor qualification involves teaching, you'll need to have a solid command of theory.
If you have already obtained a private pilot certificate, the multi-engine qualification becomes what is known as a “complementary qualification”. Pilots who already hold a commercial, private license or an ATP (air transport pilot) license can enroll in a flight course with a multi-engine classification. This is an additional certification that adds to an existing pilot's license and allows pilots to confidently manage the complexities of multi-engine aircraft. The FAA requires that Part 141 flight instructor training programs that add a category or class qualification to a pre-existing certificate have at least 20 hours of ground instruction.
The goal of this flight training is to teach you the skills, knowledge and judgment necessary to teach others to fly multi-engine aircraft safely and to prepare you for the FAA practical flight instructor (multi-engine aircraft) exam, conducted by a designated pilot examiner (DPE). Private pilot license, instrument qualification, commercial pilot license, multi-engine qualification, flight instructor certified as a flight instructor certified by the biennial Zero-1500 ATP Review program. While there are no specific time requirements to add a multi-engine qualification to a certificate, most pilots usually need about 10 hours of flight training to achieve the competence required to pass the practical exam. You must have a commercial multi-engine certificate (or ATP), a current certified flight instructor certificate, and a current FAA medical certificate before starting training.
